Trauma & Intergenerational Trauma
Trauma & Intergenerational Trauma
Healing from trauma involves more than talking about what happened. Trauma can live in the body, shape beliefs about ourselves and others, and influence patterns that repeat over time and across generations.
At Road to Happiness, we support individuals in understanding and healing both personal and intergenerational trauma. This may include childhood experiences, attachment wounds, relationship trauma, and long-standing emotional or behavioural patterns that feel difficult to change.
Our approach is compassionate, collaborative, and paced based on your readiness and capacity. We focus on helping you feel safe, supported, and empowered throughout the process while working toward meaningful and lasting change.
EMDR Therapy
We provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based approach that helps the brain process and integrate distressing experiences.
EMDR can support:
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
Anxiety and depression
Negative self-beliefs
Distressing memories and triggers
Emotional patterns that feel stuck
Rather than only talking through experiences, EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity of past experiences so they feel more manageable, allowing you to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Parts Work (IFS and Ego States Therapy)
We integrate parts work, including Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Ego States Therapy, to help you understand and connect with different parts of yourself that may hold pain, fear, or protective roles.
Through this approach, you can:
Build awareness of internal patterns and responses
Heal wounded parts of yourself
Reduce inner conflict
Develop greater self-compassion and emotional balance
This work is especially helpful for individuals who feel stuck in recurring patterns or experience strong emotional responses that feel difficult to understand.
Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
We also offer the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), a gentle, research-based listening intervention designed to support nervous system regulation.
SSP can help with:
Trauma and anxiety
Emotional dysregulation
Social and relational challenges
Auditory sensitivities
Post-concussion symptoms
Neurodivergent profiles, including autism and ADHD
By helping the nervous system feel safer and more regulated, SSP can support your ability to engage in therapy, connect with others, and respond to stress more effectively.
